Honorable Mention: "Ten-Day-Old Infant" by Joanne Katz. “This photo was taken in 1995 in rural southern Nepal. We were doing a study on maternal supplementation with vitamin A and newborn survival. The tiny infant looked like a malnourished newborn but was already 10 days old. How it had survived, given its size, is a mystery. The young, partially veiled woman is the mother. The somewhat angry older woman is her mother-in-law, a feared and powerful figure in the households of these young women.” --Joanne Katz
