A word with the new Health Advisory Board chair Stephen G. Moore.

For Stephen G. Moore, MD, who, with his wife Julia, cofounded the Moore Center for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse at the Bloomberg School in 2012, launching the Center was something of a homecoming.

Moore earned his MPH from the School in 1993 and completed the General Preventive Medicine Residency Program in 1996, serving as chief resident. His involvement as an alumnus of the School was minimal after finishing his studies in Baltimore, Moore acknowledges. More recently, he has been making up for lost time.

Moore, president and CEO of Indiana-based CarDon & Associates, joined the School’s Health Advisory Board (HAB) in 2013 and subsequently became its chair, replacing the late Frank Hurley, PhD ’71, who died in January 2015.

“This is a unique and very important place,” says Moore, recalling that he enrolled at the School because of his belief that “prevention was a better model for helping people.”

It’s early days for Moore as HAB chair and he’s looking forward to meeting more members of the School community. The HAB is a group of alumni and friends, representing a variety of industries and professions, who advise the Dean on the School’s long-term direction.

“My priority is to help make sure that the HAB can make a strong contribution to the School’s well-being,” Moore says.

The School’s human capital, he says, is its greatest strength. “This institution is full of bright, talented, motivated, inspiring people,” Moore observes. “It’s a group of people who really do believe that we can help make the world a better place—and that’s exciting.”
