Two for the Dean Team

Dean Michael J. Klag has named the new associate dean for Public Health Practice and Training, and the new associate dean for Education and Faculty Development.

The new associate dean for Public Health Practice and Training is Thomas Burke (top), a professor of Health Policy and Management (HPM) and director of the Johns Hopkins Risk Sciences and Public Policy Institute. As associate dean, Burke, PhD, MPH, will lead efforts to build bridges between the School and local, state and federal agencies. His research and collaborative efforts include environmental epidemiology and surveillance, evaluation of population exposures to environmental pollutants and health risk assessment.

Stephen Teret, JD, MPH '79, will serve as the associate dean for Education and Faculty Development. Formerly a deputy chair of HPM with almost 30 years of teaching experience, Teret directs the Center for Law and the Public's Health and conducts research in areas such as obesity prevention, vaccine policy, bioterrorism and firearm injury prevention. As associate dean, he will work to enhance the School's educational programs and maximize the faculty's ability to successfully pursue their careers at the School.

Both appointments went into effect in July of this year.
