PERSISTENCE

Five-year-old Seware of Pakistan’s Ghotki District walks with support from her mother. Seware was one of 12 Ghotki children diagnosed in 2010 with polio, which remains endemic in Pakistan (as well as Afghanistan and Nigeria). In the U.S., polio has been eliminated, but another virus is causing similarly devastating effects in some children. See “Singled Out”.
