STRENGTH IN COMMUNITY
For over a decade, Tanjala Purnell has been knocking down the barriers that make Black Americans less likely than their white counterparts to receive lifesaving kidney transplants. Purnell, PhD ’12, MPH, an associate professor in Epidemiology, has worked with national kidney and transplant organizations and cultivated faith-based partnerships to inform communities and support individuals who need transplants. Her efforts to advance transplant equity earned Purnell the National Kidney Foundation’s 2023 Excellence in Transplantation Award.
